Should I microchip my dog? Cost & can it be done during neuter?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Male | neutered | 5 months and 4 days old | 7.8 lbs

My dog has not had a microchip placed...is this something I should think about doing? If so, what is the approximate cost and can it be done when he is under anesthesia for his upcoming neutering appointment?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, this is something that I definitely recommend as it can provide peace of mind in case he gets lost. The cost will depend on where this is done. However, this is usually less than $40 and in some cases you have to pay a small annual fee to the company that keeps the database with this information. This can be done at the time of the neuter. Good luck and have a good night!
