Should I microchip my dog? Cost & can it be done during neuter?

My dog has not had a microchip placed...is this something I should think about doing? If so, what is the approximate cost and can it be done when he is under anesthesia for his upcoming neutering appointment? Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Male | neutered | 5 months and 4 days old | 7.8 lbs

The cost will depend on where this is done. However, this is usually less than $40 and in some cases you have to pay a small annual fee to the company that keeps the database with this information.
