My dog is sad after his friend died. How can I help him feel better?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 6 months old | 15 lbs

One of our dogs died 3 weeks ago. Our other dog bonsai who grew up with her seems to be missing her and has kept on sleeping near our door seeming like he's waiting for her to comeback. They're best friends and they've played together since they were puppies. Would bonsai be fine after sometime? I really feel bad for him since hee obviously don't know that his best friend is not coming back.

I'm very sorry you recently lost one of your dogs! It sounds like Bonsai is grieving, and that does happen when they lose a companion. This grieving will pass over time, and he will return to normal. During this time, I would give him more attention and love to help support him. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
