My cocker spaniel is suddenly aggressive. Will neutering help him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Cocker Spaniel | Male | unneutered | 44 lbs

I have a 5 year old golden retriever and a 4 year old working cocker. Recently they were playing which somehow escalated into a prolonged aggressive attack by the cocker leaving the goldie traumatised and a punctured leg. The cocker met a puppy yesterday but instead of reprimanding the pup for putting its leg on his neck this turned into another prolonged attack. No damage to puppy but again traumatised. Cocker normally sweet but this can’t go on Castration? Or could this make things worse?

Castration can help with aggressive behavior, and I would schedule that surgery with Murphy's vet. He also needs to see a professional behavioral expert. He is dog aggressive, and this is something that needs to be worked with as soon as possible before he really hurts another dog. He also has the potential to hurt another human being. I never recommend that owners work with aggressive dogs on their for their safety, so speak to your vet about a recommendation to a professional behavioral expert. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
