My dog delivered a puppy hours after her litter. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 6 years and 7 months old | 110 lbs

My dog went into labor around noon yesterday. By 8am this morning we had 11 births, 10 live puppies. Now 12 hrs later she just randomly n surprisingly just delivered another live pup. She's caring and attentive and seems to be fine but should I be worried with so many hours since the last delivery? It would be the end of the world for me if anything happened to my baby girl. Just FYI, she is a 6 1/2 yr old pure lab and this is her first (and only now) litter.

How lovely that Chloe had 11 live puppies! I would have her checked out by a vet as soon as possible. It's not normal that she delivered another puppy 12 hours after her other puppies, and I would be concerned that there may be more yet to be born. It's best to be safe and have her checked out. I'd also recommend having her spayed once her puppies are weaned. Dogs over the age of six should not be bred. Best of luck, I hope this helps and enjoy the puppies!
