My cat's eye is leaking and she's lethargic. Allergies or other cause?

Hi!!! My little olives right eye has been leaking much more than normal for the past 2 days!! It tends to come in waves!! I noticed that when she eats it’s worse!! She always eats her full portion of food!!She has been very sleepy and hasn’t played in about 2 weeks!! She is normally a quiet cat but she is quieter than normal!! It has been an abnormally hot summer and she has tiny ears which I clean weekly with Avena Sativa!!! Is it possible that it is allergies or could it be something else? Pet's info: Cat | RagaMuffin | Female | spayed | 4 years and 1 month old | 11 lbs

I am sorry to hear about your cat Olive! If this has been going on for several days and is only affecting one eye, I would recommend having Olive's vet take a look at her eye. We could have allergies but it could also be a blockage of the nasolacrimal/tear duct that normally drains tears from the eye or an abrasion/scratch on the cornea causing excessive tears. The vet will examine her eye with an ophthalmoscope and put a special stain on her eye to check for ulcers and scratches and the patency of the tear duct.
