My neutered dog still humps other dogs. What can I do to stop it?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 9 years and 11 months old | 11 lbs

My dog is a 10yr old chihuahua and he got neutered maybe like 3 months ago but he still humps all the dogs. I thought the neuter would help stop this behavior anything I can do to make him stop?

This could be a dominance behavior or may be due to an abnormal production of hormones such as cushings disease. I recommend a full vet check and bloods especially if there are any additional symptoms such as altered appetite and or coat changes

    Oh, He's a cutie! Humping can be a dominance behavior or sexual in nature. Neutering can sometimes help, but the fact that Russel is already an older dog means that even his hormone driven behaviors are also habit by now. It can take a few months for the testosterone to fully decrease. During that time work on basic training while integrating him into your house and family. This is not a sexual behavior, but likely a response to stress, anxiety or to assert his dominance. Correct the behavior immediately when you see it. Remove him from the dog with a stern "No" and offer a toy or task to distract him. Praise and reward him when he complies. If he persists, separate him until he settles down. Be firm and be consistent.

Humping is not only a sexual behavior, it can also be a dominance behavior, a stress response, etc. Any new changes lately - new pet in the home, any major changes in his routine or in the house? My dog is 6m old was neutered at 5m, yesterday he just started to hump my leg. Could something have gone wrong with the neutering?

Hello, whenever i go to my friends house i bring my dog with me, he's a 5 year old mixed male dog whom is neutered. He trys to specifically hump 1 out of the 3 other dogs in the household and that dog is a 3 year old male. He's never done this before
It's hard to say why Duke might be doing this with only one specific dog. Humping in dogs is often associated with frustration, over-excitement, or can be an attempt to solicit attention or play in some cases. It would help to be able to observe the dogs interacting in order to make a better guess at why he does this. If it's causing a problem, the best option would be to simply separate Duke from this dog when you are at your friend's house, or keep him on-leash so that he can't bother the other dog. You could also try giving him something special to chew on when he is there, such as a bully stick or rawhide, to help keep him busy.

My dog cookie keeps humping my other dog. She is spayed and the other dog is neutered. Please help.
Hello, sorry to hear about Cookie. If she is spayed, then I would be concerned that she may have a remnant ovarian tissue that needs to be completely removed. The remnant ovary may be continuing to produce sex hormones which is then causing her behavior. Alternatively, this could be a learned behavior that you will need to modify by deferring his behavior to doing something else. I would discuss with your primary care veterinarian about checking hormones via a blood sample to confirm that she does not have remnant ovarian tissue. Cookie may also need an abdominal ultrasound to check for this. Hope this helps and best of luck.

My female blue heeler was spayed a month ago, she keeps “humping” my other female and male dog. How long does it take for this to stop after being spayed?
Humping is not only a sexual behavior but it also a dominance behavior. It is most likely that she is trying to assert her dominance over the other dogs. My dog was neutered in January 2018, and today, which is July 14, he suddenly decided to hump again. After he was playing with his squeaky toy, he randomly started humping the pillow. Don’t know if that’s normal.
Hi there. Yes, it's quite normal for neutered males to still hump sometimes. This behavior is often related to frustration, anxiety, or over-arousal during play. As long as he isn't doing it so much that it causes irritation to his penis, it isn't anything to be concerned about - just a normal "dog thing." :)

My dog never humped before, i got him neutered a year ago and today i noticed he started humping his toys. Why is this now happening?
Has anything changed in the household? New people? New pets? Babies who started crawling/walking? Construction? Guests? Change of furniture? Changed schedules of routine? Etc.. Sometimes when there is some type of change it can strike up this behavior because they are anxious and trying to figure out what to do with themselves. They can also do it if they are trying to portray dominance. You can tell him "no" and take his toy away. If there is a particular toy that he likes to hump, I would get rid of it. You can also give him a calming chew like composure and a calming collar like adaptil. I hope this helps!

Why does my male dog (1.5 year old, neutered) keeps whining and then goes on to hump his toys?
Dogs can still hump things even after being neutered because they have learned that it feels good. When you see him getting ready to hump something, immediate distract him with another toy, or ask him to perform a basis command you have taught him. That will get his attention away from humping, and gives him an alternative behavior to perform.
