Can Allegra or Zyrtec prevent my dog's seasonal allergy symptoms?

Every year in August my dog starts his allergies with his itchy skin and eyes,,if it gets too bad my vet will order prednisone orally which does help. But can I ward off some of the symptoms with Allegra or Zyrtec? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | 6 years and 9 months old | 100 lbs

In addition, the experts cannot say for certain if a specific drug is safe for Dakota.
