My cat whines when touched and struggles to move. Is he injured?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Chinese Li Hua | Male | neutered | 9 lbs

I noticed my cat hasn't been himself today, he has been walking slower and struggles to lay down/ get up. He cannot bend like normal to clean himself and upon investigation whines when touched slightly behind the front legs. He is about 1 year old now and is not overweight but is built bigger than most cats... I'm not sure if he got injured in a fall or if it's something much worse, just looking for possible answers

Poor CJ! It sounds like he is in pain if he's walking slower, struggling to lay down and get up, and cannot bend to clean himself. I would be concerned that he has a problem with his neck or back. It possible he was injured. My advice is to rest him tonight, and take him into a vet first thing in the morning. The vet can diagnose what is causing his pain, and can treat him for it. The vet can also prescribe pain medication as needed. Please do not give him any human pain medications, many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. Best of luck.
