My cat has a bald spot with dried blood. Is it a fighting injury?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 11 months and 15 days old | 13 lbs

My cat has an area that has balded and has dried blood(?). It wasn’t on him this morning, and he’s not an outside cat. I have 1 other cat; they tend to fight so I feel like it may be an injury from that, but I’m not too sure. It’s not bothering him at all even when touched.

This could be from a tiff indeed. I would observe it for a few days. If it starts to swell or does not start healing you should have it examined by your vet. If it starts healing it should be fine. Do not put anything on it, just leave it be.

Hi, and thanks for your question. Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking.
