My puppy ate a flea egg. Should I worry about her getting worms?

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Chica has tapeworm. Tapeworm are usually from fleas (current or previous infestation). Most general puppy dewormers do not kill tapeworm. Chica should get a dwormer that gets tapeworm, either drontal or cestex or droncit. Your boxer can not get tapeworm from those segments, she would need to have ingested a flea as well. Thanks for using Boop by Petco. These are tapeworms and they come from your pet ingesting a flea or eating another pets poop that has live tapeworms in it. It is contagious to other pets and people via ingestion of a live worm. You will need tapeworm specific dewormer such as Drontal or Praziquantel to rid this worm and a good flea preventative (Bravecto, Nexgard, Firstshield) is recommended. Usually tapeworms are gone after the first treatment as long as puppy doesn't get reinfected. I hope this is helpful! Take care now.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian to start her on a deworming medication. It looks like this could be tapeworms but they would be able to take a look up close and decide. Then they can use the best dewormer for her. Usually treating worms is inexpensive and effective. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It sounds like Koga has roundworms. The eggs of intestinal parasites are shed in his poop not from his fur. You need to clean up the stools as soon as he goes to prevent contamination of the environment. Your son should be ok as long as he isn’t eating the poop. Just make sure to wash his hands after he plays with the puppy or before he eats. You will need to treat Koga twice (3 weeks apart) and the you should be all set. Good luck and kisses to Koga!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Based on your description, the pictures and the fact that Meeko recently had fleas confirms he has tapeworm. Fleas are the intermediate host for tapeworm. Treatment is simply a pill. You can call your Vet to have them dispense medication. Either Droncit, Drontal or Cestex will get tapeworms. Be sure you have Meeko on a good flea and tick prevention. Cassie should be treated with a deworming medication such as Panacar (fenbendazole) which treats roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms. This treatment is generally once daily for 3 days. Then, this same treatment should be repeated again in 3 weeks, and again in 3 months. This is done to ensure that all lifestages of the worms are treated by the medication. If there are any other pets in the household too, they need to be treated/dewormed too! I hope this is helpful!

Dogs acquire tapeworms from eating fleas. If you have the flea problem under control and she was treated for tapeworms than she should not get them again. If you notice any segments in her feces than she should be dewormed again. If you continue with monthly fleas prevention than the problem should go away. Your family will not get tapeworms unless someone ingests a flea!

As gross as it may be, it is OK if he does this, since he is receiving a deworming medication. These medications work to kill the worms in his gastrointestinal tract, so the adult worms are dead when they are passed into his feces. Depending on the type of dewormer, it may target parasite eggs as well, in which case he should be fully covered. I recommend asking your veterinarian if the deworming medication he is taking covers all life-stages of the parasites. If it does, it should kill everything from eggs to adults, meaning anything that Charlie eats is already dead and cannot re-infect his gastrointestinal tract.
