Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 3 lbs

yesterday they gave my boyfriend a shih tzu and his about less than 6 weeks old I told him he was given out to early because he would need his mother and her milk. I gave him regular milk for the meantime so he can have something in his system he drank it and poop every time after. Today we went to petco and got him formula. My boyfriend said he fed him regular milk around 5 and he drank it, is now 11pm we tried giving him formula but he doesn’t want to drink it. Maybe his not hungry? Pls help.

Please do not give Benji regular milk, it causes GI upset in dogs and should never be given to them. He may not be hungry, but if he's around four weeks of age, he can start being weaned onto puppy food. To help him wean and to get used to dry food, I would soak a high quality puppy formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with his puppy formula to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry puppy food and decrease the amount of water and puppy formula you use until he is eating the dry puppy food only. Best of luck!
