My cat licked ear mite treatment. Is it toxic? What symptoms to watch?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Male | neutered | 10 years and 7 months old | 13 lbs

I think my cat got some bio-groom ear nite treatment in his mouth. I think I put too much in his ears and he tried to clean it out. I've treated him with it before and he wasn't sensitive but if he consumed some, should I be concerned?

Hi and thanks for posting! The Bio-Groom ear mite cleanser does contain Pyrethrins which can be toxic if consumed in large amounts. While licking a very small amount of it from his paw may not be enough to cause a serious problem, I would still keep on the look out. Concerning signs to watch out for are tremors, seizures, hypersalivation, panting, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you see any of these signs, I would recommend seeing a veterinarian right away.
