Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | neutered | 12 years and 6 months old | 20 lbs
My 12-year-old pug has a history of mast cell tumors and has had several successful removals in the past. He currently has three small masses that he has surgery scheduled for. They've been there for months and have been stable. All are in places where the vet should be able to use wide margins. The vet just sent an estimate for the surgery and said that sending the removed masses for analysis is optional and will cost $550. Is this step necessary if she's confident her margins were wide enough?

Yes, this step is necessary. Even though the vet is confident her margins were wide enough, the only way to know for sure is to send the masses for analysis. I'd recommend doing it, especially since Lewis has a history of mass cell tumors. I hope this helps!
