My newborn kitten's bottom is wet and rashy. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | unspayed | 8 days old

She is 7 days old. And I doubt she's peeing on herself( and frequently), I Mean without mother's help..because, in last 2 days I noticed her lower body wet many a times. Also there are rashes present around genital parts. Actually, I am watching new born kitten first time, so just afraid. Is it ok or I need to visit vet?

This could be urine scalding. At her age, she needs to be stimulated to urinate and defecate after each feeding. This is done by gently wiping a warm, moist cotton ball or washcloth around the genitalia until elimination occurs. Clean her up and dry her thoroughly afterwards. The mother will typically do this, but if she isn't, the job will fall toyou. .
