My puppy has parvo symptoms, negative tests. What else could it be?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 3 days old | 10 lbs

My puppy has been having parvo symptoms but took him to two vet clinics to get checked but test came back negative on both. He has been vomiting, very skinny, and bloody stool. Not sure what I should try?

Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites. Supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, anti-emetics, anti-diarrheals and parenteral nutrition) may be indicated until a diagnosis is reached or until your pup recovers.

She needs to be monitored. If this sign becomes persistent in the next 12-24hours a check up would be ideally required. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.

Since Machie is fully vaccinated (i.e. got all three series of vaccines each given four weeks apart), then I would not be concerned that he has parvo. Now if he's only gotten one or two of the vaccines, then he won't be fully vaccinated and he's at risk of getting parvo from your neighbor's puppy because it's so contagious. There are other causes of diarrhea including intestinal parasite, GI illness, and eating something rotten, so I'd recommend having him seen by a vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing his diarrhea and how best to treat it. Best of luck.
