My 4-month kitten is lethargic and hasn't eaten in 2 days. Emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 12 days old | 3 lbs

Skinny 4 month old kitten sounded like a pug when we took her in. No eye or nose discharge, no sneezing. Humidifier helped symptoms go away. Was eating lots like ferals do and being given Nutrical once a day ... then she started sleeping all day and acting lethargic. It has been 48 hours since she last ate or drank now. I say this because I last changed her litter box 2 days ago and it is still empty. I am currently dropper feeding her water and nutrical. Should I seek emergency care?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Sasha! I don't like when cats go more than 2 days with out eating. If she is extremely lethargic then I would take her today, otherwise tomorrow at your Vet at the latest. She could have a fever from an upper respiratory tract infection, leukemia, feline infectious peritonitis or other viral infection. I wish you and Sasha the best!
