Puppy ate sand, had vet care, but still weak and not eating. Normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | 1 month and 20 days old | 1lb

I took my 7 week old teacup yorkie puppy to the vet on the 8th they said he ate sand. They gave him SQ fluids, an enema- ky/water, dextrose 50% oral and Amoxi drops 50 mg/ml w/ Reglan 2. He won't eat so I've been blending his food and feed him with a syringe he barely drinks water and is very weak. Is all this normal?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Louie. I am sorry to hear that he is so ill. If he has not shown improvement, then he will need to see his veterinarian. Being so young and small, it will be easy for him to become dehydrated and for his blood sugar to drop too low. In the meantime, continue to syringe him food so that he does not go too long between meals. I hope he is feeling better. Good luck!
