Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Female | spayed | 6 months and 1 day old | 36 lbs
Thank you so much for your advice Melanie! I will listen to your advice. Before that, how am I sure that my dog is on period, and how do I know when did she start being in heat? My guess that she is on period is based on my observation, as shown in the pics, the discretion is not red blood, it’s dark brown and smell like rusty metal. Is 6 months old too early for standard poodle to be on heat? Does this pic appear as in heat to you? Again, I did not find any blood spot on the floor so far. Thx

I'm very glad I could help you! Six months is a little early for a standard poodle to go into heat for the first time as they typically go into heat closer to a year, but it can happen. Her vulva looks a little swollen from your picture, which you do see when a dog goes into heat. You don't always see blood spots when a dog is in heat because they can excessively lick that area, thus cleaning up the blood. This dark brown could be dried blood, and it could be coming from another source such as her bladder. It might be she could have a UTI or bladder stones. Without seeing her person, I can't diagnose if she is in heat or not, but I'd make an appointment with her vet for this week sometime. The vet can diagnose if she is in heat, and you can discuss when would be a good time to spay her. I hope this helps!
