How to shorten my dog's long, curved nails without cutting the quick?

Do walks and clipping the nail of the dogs shorten the nail and the vein? My dog has really long nails where they curve. Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 1 year and 7 months old | 48 lbs

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Clipping their nails is needed to shorten them and walking them outside usually keeps them shorter and may delay the need for clipping though clipping is always still going to be needed. Good luck and have a great day!
