Yes, fleas can cause what is called flea bite hypersensitivity or dermatitis. If you suspect Auggie has fleas, then I would recommend using a flea preventative such as frontline. This could also be an allergy or a bacterial skin infection. I would recommend using the below recommended products. If there is no improvement or the condition worsens then I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Auggie so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further. 1. Douxo PS chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly 2. Malacetic conditioning spray and apply to the area twice daily until resolved 3. Welactin omega 3 fish oil capsules for dogs 4. Essential 6 spot on by dermoscent All of these products can be found online quite easily.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, fleas can cause an allergy that can look just like that. Flea allergy can be so stressful to deal with. The main thing is getting rid of fleas effectively as that is the inciting cause driving the itchiness resulting in scratching and self-traumatic lesions like that. If she is already on a flea preventative, then you could consider switching to a different product. There are many great product in the market such as Frontline and Bravecto, among others. Also, it is important to vacuum the house and all things that have contact with Auggie frequently. Make sure the other others pets in the household if any are also on a flea preventative. Try this for 1-3 months and if does not make a difference, she may have another type of allergy such as a food allergy or environmental allergy. Good luck and thanks for letting us take care of you today!
