Are peanuts safe for dogs to eat in small amounts, or are they bad?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 19.842 lbs

Are peanuts (not peanut butter) bad for dogs? Because sometimes i give my dog 2-3 peanuts when it asks for 'em.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While peanuts are not toxic to dogs, they are high in fat and excessive amounts of it may result in dietary indiscretion. However, if Kimi eats them in small amounts and she tolerates it well then she should be just fine. Good luck and have a great day! I hope you find this information helpful.
