Dog's post-surgery spot growing. Is it infection? Emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | 1 year and 1 month old | 70 lbs

My dog had surgery to remove necrotic tissue from a dog bite yesterday. Tonight we noticed a spot growing in size since we picked him up. The first photo is when we picked him up, second is last night, third is tonight. Does this look like more necrotic tissue ? Does it appear like the vet maybe didnt get it all during surgery? Do I need to take him to the emergency vet? (Tomorrow is Sunday and my vet is closed)

This does look like a little bit of infection which sometimes cannot be avoided. Observe it, if it spreads rapidly, ie doubles in size you need to take him in to a vet for a check-up. If it stays about the same or does not grow much in size and he does not appear lethargic, you can wait until Monday to take him in for a recheck.
