Why does my kitten lick my nipples? Is it normal or a weaning issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 27 days old | 2.2 lbs

Very very strange but my 12 week old kitten, whom I’ve had since she was 5 weeks (found lost in the woods with no mom and adopted by me through a vet) will sometimes lick my nipples in the morning if I lay on my back in bed topless. Is this normal? Is it because she was weened too early? Does she know I’m female?

I would not allow this behavior and I would not consider it "normal". It is surely due to her being weaned too early. She would do this to any nipple she finds - male or female or even a different species. Please don't allow her to do this. If you stop the behavior now she will likely stop doing it. Best wishes.
