Goodwinol ointment *may* treat demodectic mange in dogs. If you have any cats in the house, it should not be used in case a cat is accidentally exposed to it. Ideally, Tom should be examined by your veterinarian to confirm mange infection and to discuss the best treatment.

    IMHO, there are much better medications to combat mange. If your veterinarian has diagnosed mange in your dog he can prescribe Bravecto flea and tick preventive which will also kill demodex and sarcoptes mites. Do not use the Goodwinol near the eyes and any other mucous membranes without the advice of your veterinarian. Call your vet whether he thinks it is suitable for your dog's condition.

What cream can I use to help my dogs demodectic mange to stop itching.
It's not recommended to use topical cream as the creams that help with itchiness can make the demodicosis worse (steroids). Once Roxy has started a systemic treatment for Demodex (I recommend Bravecto tablet) the itchiness should get much better within a few days.

Hello. Yes, Ivermectin is used to treat demodectic mange in dogs. The dose is given once a day & repeat skin scrapes are done. Once there are 2 negative scrapes where no live mites are found, the ivermectin will be discontinued. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Demodex is a mite, not a bacteria, so doxycycline will not help at all. I would hesitate to use entederm because it has a steroid in it and steroids can cause demodex lesions to flare or get worse. Please call your veterinarian to discuss different therapies available to treat her.

What to do with demodectic mange?
It depends on if the mange is localized (in one area of the body), or generalized. Localized demodex mange does not typically require any treatment, and 90% of cases resolve in six to eight weeks. Generalized demodex mange involves treating any underlying systemic illness, antibiotics for skin infection, amitraz dips, milbemycin, and ivermectin, which is given by the veterinarian. Ivermectin treatment has to been given for 90-120 days, and should be used for one month past resolution of symptoms. Amitraz dips should be given every two weeks for between six to 14 dips, and should continue for one month after mites are not found on skin scrapings. They cannot be given to toy breeds or puppies younger than four months of age. I would have your dog seen by a vet if it is suffering from demodex mange.

Is there any over the counter shampoos you recommend to help soothe my pup that has demodectic mange? She was switched from trifexis to simparica and interceptor plus for treatment but I want a shampoo that will help soothe it during regular baths I
Use an oatmeal type bath. This will help to moisturize the skin. You may also ask your veterinarian about using a special prescription shampoo which can help to clear out the pores and may be somewhat effective against the mites (though you need to continue your current treatment). kindly tell me how to differentiate between scabies and demodecosis in dogs? also tell the treatment of both
Demodicosis and scabies are caused by 2 different mites, Demodex and Sarcpotes, respectively. The only way to diagnose and differentiate between these mites is by a veterinarian performing a skin scraping. This technique essentially scrapes away the top few layers of skin cells and bit of blood just under the outermost cells so that the sample can be examined microscopically. The mites are diagnosed during this microscopic exam and can easily be distinguished. There are two different prescription based medications for each mite, but must be given under close veterinary supervision. If you are concerned about mange, Jack should see his vet for both diagnosis and treatment. I hope that all goes well!

My dog has generalized demodectic mange and I was wondering if there are any ways to treat him at home
Unfortunately, the only home treatment you can for for this are soothing oatmeal baths, but thus is only a palliative treatment and will not do anything to treat the mange or any secondary bacterial infections that he likely has. Especially if the mange is generalized as you say, it is going to require prescription medication to kill the mites. Your pet may also need prescription antibiotics as a deep bacterial infection is common with generalized démodéx This usually requires several weeks of treatment and can extend up to a few months.

After some research I have found that you can buy Ivermectin. It is very EASY to overdose so please be careful dosing your dog. It is dosed by weight. Follow the label instructions carefully and repeat every 14 days until one month after all the mange is gone. It is strongly recommended that you work with your vet on using this product. My dog ate about 1/2 a tablespoon of goodwinol ointment. Should I be concerned?
In looking up the ingredients for goodwinol ointment, I see that it contains pyrethrins and rotenone. Rotenone isn't well absorbed, but pyrethrins are; however, the good news is that they have a wide range of lately. You may see signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, lethargy, hyper salivation, and muscle tremors. Given the sample amount Raven ate, you will likely see mild, if any, signs from ingesting this. Should you see any GI signs (vomiting, diarrhea), I would withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. Raven should be fine, however.
