My dog's urine is red/orange. Is it from new food or something else?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 56 lbs

My dog ate blueberries and a large carrot today and has also had a home cooked recipe of veggies, ground turkey and rice for her meals last night and this morning. She peed red and then orange just now, is that from the veggies? One part looked like a tiny clot but I’m not sure if it was or not. Seemed like a coincidence to feed her different and same day there was different color urine.

Hello, sorry to hear about Delilah. It unusual for the veggies and blueberries to make her urine darker. Given that female dogs are more likely to UTIs, I would recommend having her checked for this to make sure she doesn't need antibiotics. Alternatively, you can continue to monitor her if she otherwise seems like her normal self, and if she has further episodes of dark colored urine, then have her seen by your veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck.
