Why is my cat suddenly jumpy and pawing at things? Is it her eyes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 years and 4 months old

Our cat has suddenly become very jumpy, has heightened interest in things that don't seem to be interesting (before she would show the same interest in something that is moving underneath a blanket), she all the time carefully tests things by ticking it with her paw. Could something have happened to her eyes/vision?

Any abrupt change in behavior or attitude should be investigated by your vet. Cats are notoriously good at hiding symptoms of illness so this could be an early warning. Your vet will perform an exam, possibly do some labwork, based on the findings of the exam.
