I have a 14 year old mini doxie that has been coughing for some time. Mainly when she gets up from laying or when we put her down after picking her up. shes eating less and less and sleeps and lays around 23 hours a day with no energy unless she wants a treat or I come home from work. She was just diagnosed with an enlarged heart and we made an appointment tomorrow to put her to sleep. There is no cure for this and my concern is her quality of life is just zero. Am I doing the right thing

Euthanasia is never an easy decision. If CocCo's "bad" days are outnumbering her "good" days, then there may be a quality of life issue to address. If not, consider an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart). This can assess cardiac architecture as well as function. If there is true cardiac disease, the echo should diagnose it and medication can be dispensed to help her. You are correct in that it can't be "cured", but it could be managed to the point where Coco is more comfortable. An exam and discussion with your veterinarian may also make this difficult decision a bit easier.
