My dog's cherry eye surgery isn't healing. Should I call the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Puggle | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 20 lbs

My pup isn’t only 1 year old. (Puggle) she has now had cherry eye surgery on both eyes. Her left eye was just done about a month ago and it still hasn’t healed. Her other eye healed within 2 weeks. We are still using the eye drops they gave us which has two antibiotics and a steroid in them. Should I take her back in? The first photo is what her right eye looked like before surgery...don’t have a pic of the left but similar..second is right now, her eye isn’t healing still.

Cherry eye cane be frustrating as you have already found out. From the second photo, I do not see a prolapsed gland but it could just be the angle. I can clearly see the prolapsed on the first photo. When in doubt, take her in. Some dogs have a more prominent third eye lid and it can be sometimes hard to tell if the gland is actually out or not. Hopefully the surgery was a success and the gland is fully covered and protected. Best of luck!
