My roommate's dog is attacking my pets. Is this behavior normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My roommates have a 3 yr old boxer. She is ill& no vet can figure out why. I think her mental health is starting to deteriorate as she has attacked my animals 5 times in the 4 months we’ve lived there. Sunday night she tried to kill my boxer. they’re saying it was over a sandwich I had wrapped up in my bag & that she has food aggression but this seems like a new level of that to me. I feel my pets are in an unsafe environment. Is what she did even normal? Idk what to do I’m stuck for a year.help

No, this behavior is not normal at all, and it sounds quite serious. I would be concerned that this dog could kill your animals, and it does sound like she could have food aggression if she attacked your dog over a sandwich. She could also be territorial. This dog is not safe around your animals, and could potentially hurt humans as well. This dog should be under the care of professional animal behavioralist to work with this aggression, but if she is too aggressive to be trained, dogs like this should honestly be put to sleep for the safety of other animals and humans. Your animals should not be around this dog. If you are stuck for a year and your roommates won't do anything about this dog (i.e. get it training), then I would see if there is someone who can take your animals until you can move it. I would not keep them in this place with that dog. If the dog is dangerous, maybe you can use that to get out of the place early. I hope this helps.
