Is there anything we can do to save my iguanas tail or will he continue to drop it completely.

Hello, I would recommend taking Andy to a vet for a check up. When reptiles injure their tails and don't drop them, I worry about the open wound becoming infected and spreading bacteria up the spinal cord. In these cases, it is sometimes best to amputate with a course of antibiotics to ensure the bacteria does not spread. I would not recommend any home care for this wound, as it looks very painful. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

While it is a nasty looking wound, he could potentially heal with proper treatment. Have him seen by your vet. A gentle cleaning followed by antibiotics may allow him to heal up. If the wound is severely infected, amputation may be your only option.
