Why is my dog lethargic, not eating, and throwing up after being lost?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 10 months and 17 days old | 9 lbs

I asked a friend to watch my dog yesterday and my dog ran away. When I got back to the house I started yelling for him and found him outside at the front door trying to get it. So my dog had been stuck outside all day! Now since last night he just sleeps and won't eat or drink hardly anything. I forced him to drink some water my pouring it in his mouth and a minute later he started throwing up. He's only about a year old but he is my world, please help us!!

I am so sorry this has happened to Babyboy. If he is still lethargic and not eating I would recommend taking him to the veterinarian. I urge caution when pouring water down dogs mouths as they can aspirate. I would also check his temperature to make sure he isn't too hot especially with the recent heat. Your veterinarian can perform a complete physical examination to see if anything needs to be done. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
