Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed
The inner corner of my cat's eye has been looking irritated for the past couple weeks. I think she maybe scratched the skin near her eye while grooming, or groomed too aggressively. I tried gently cleaning it with a damp cotton ball and it started to heal, but it became irritated and started bleeding when she groomed again. I'm not sure how serious this is and if it will heal with time or if I should take her to the vet.

Hi and thanks for posting! If you've tried managing at home but it has not gotten better, I would recommend Willow be seen by her veterinarian. It could be a puncture wound, scratch, or a draining tract from an infected or abscessed tooth root. It may also be secondary to an actual eye infection. Your veterinarian will do an eye exam and evaluate her lesion, mouth, and teeth to help determine what the cause may be. Willow may need to go home with antibiotics and other medications as needed. I hope this helps!

Hello, I am sorry to hear about Kitty. The photos that you have provided make me think that her eye problems are secondary to fighting with your other cat. The skin around her eyes is quite red and inflamed and there are scabs present. It is possible that Kitty may have a bacterial or parasitic infection. Alternatively she could be experiencing allergies. I would recommend having Kitty seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine her and perform further testing if needed. They may suggest collecting a hair sample from the affected area or perform skin testing. Hope this helps, good luck!

I can see the abnormality you described. It's difficult to know what the cause is without an examination. It could be mucous on the cornea or an injury. I would recommend that you have her seen by your veterinarian. They can examine the eye and may stain it to look for an injury.

If this is due to allergies, then an eye drop with a steroid from the veterinarian would certainly help. If you are too far from a veterinarian, you can try an antihistamine eye drop and see if this helps. I've recommended Zaditor (ketotifen fumarate) for cats and dogs before and have seen good improvement with the symptoms. This is at most drug stores / grocery stores in the eye drop aisle. If this does not resolve or worsens, then I would get her in to be seen by the veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
