When is it safest for my puppy to fly: in cabin or checked cargo?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 5 days old

Hello, I will be bringing my puppy from my hometown soon. Its approx a 2 and a half hour flight. He was born a week ago and is an american bully. Can you tell me at what age it is safest for him to be on a plane? And is it safer for him to be with me as a cabin bag under my seat or under the plane as checked? Thank you

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Congrats! It is MUCH safer to have the puppy with you under the seat. I do not recommend a bully breed, especially a puppy to be checked in the cargo area. As soon as the breeder deems him weaned and ready then he can fly with you. Good luck!
