Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | unspayed | 8 lbs

Hello Have a 6 year old Pomeranian She has a ruptured anal gland took her to the vets they administered her antibiotics and pain relief tablets . They have recommended we go back in just over a week to get her put to sleep and it cleaned and flushed for £400 if necessary I will .saying this it's a lot of money and if this can heal on its own ECT would rather try that way is that absolutely vital to be done or safe not to have the procedure done ??

Hello. Most anal gland infections heal up quite nicely with medications & keeping the area clean. Unless there is a special circumstance involving Tia's glands, such as the area is just not healing, additional flushing & treatment is usually not necessary. See how she does after a week on antibiotics & if she is doing well, just continue the antibiotics. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
