Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | spayed | 11 years and 7 months old | 15 lbs
I have a 12-yr. old Jack Russell Terrier who apparently has some digestive issues. Her stomach gurgles loudly at times - not frequently but occasionally. When this happens, she eats grass. I just heard that no grain foods may cause heart disease. What would you recommend as a dog food? I currently give her dry food in the morning & canned food in the pm. She was a rescue dog & drank very little water when we first got her. She drinks more now but that's the reason I give her wet food. (Wellness)

Yes, you are correct that there is concern that no grain foods may potentially linked to heart disease, and the FDA is now investigating that. Personally, I recommend feeding Gypsy Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, or Iams. I feed my own dogs Iams and they love it. I hope this helps!

Thank you for contacting PetCoach with your question about Bentley. It's not recommended to continually switch foods, but it's good he's never had diarrhea. If he is eating a Fromm food that isn't grain free, you can keep him on that. Should his food be grain free, I'd switch him to a food with grains. Vets are seeing an increase in dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs who are on grain free diets, and the FDA is currently investigating that link. It's quite concerning, and I don't recommend grain free diets for a dog's safety. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I feed my own dogs Iams, and they love it. I hope this helps! http://vetnutrition.tufts.edu/2018/06/a-broken-heart-risk-of-heart-disease-in-boutique-or-grain-free-diets-and-exotic-ingredients/
