Why is my cat shedding hair in clumps under her chin in summer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

Hi! My cats are shedding hair a lot these last couples of weeks. Especially the one with short hair, under her chin, I get clumps of it. Is it normal? It it because it's summer? Thank you!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Shedding is completely normal, especially as the temperature gets warmer. What would be abnormal is if you are seeing bald spots of skin on your cats, especially if it the skin is pink/red or dry and crusting. This could indicate a skin infection or allergies. I hope this is helpful!
