My dog's dew claw regrew wider, not curling. Is it infected or normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Greyhound | Male | neutered | 6 years and 5 months old

My dogs dew claw broke last season and I had to have it cauterized because the quick was exposed. Well I grew back and is not curling yet and is wider. Wondering if it's infected or normal.

Sometimes, when the claw is brocken or the quick was exposed the area where the nail regenerates gets damaged and the horn will regrow in a different shape. This is usually not a problem and just a cosmetic matter. However these malformed nails also have to be clipped regularly. Apart from that I see no reddening or swelling that would point to an infection or inflammation.
