My dog ate cooked rib bones. What should I do for her diarrhea?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | spayed | 52 lbs

My 50+# husky ate several cooked rib bones a couple of days ago. She was okay the first day , solid poop, almost a white color, which I assumed were the remains of the bones. She has been having diarrhea for the last 24 hrs. No blood in it. Drinking more water, but I expect that's from being a bit dehydrated from her diarrhea. Put her on chicken and rice this morning with a tbsp of pumpkin puree. Is there anything else I can do? Or am I overlooking anything?

There is nothing else I'd recommend for treating diarrhea at home. If the diarrhea continues for more than 3 days, if you see blood, if Sunni seems to be straining when defecating without producing much stool, or if she vomits or has a decrease in appetite I'd recommend seeing a veterinarian. Rib bones often cause constipation, but sometimes a dog can pass small amounts of watery stool while constipated so watch closely for straining.
