My dog is throwing up. Should I worry about eye drops or salmon oil?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 9 days old | 137 lbs

Charlie had a small eye infection on Wednesday so the vet has me giving him eye drops 2 a day. The last two days though he’s been randomly throwing up. He threw up this morning at 6 and then bile just now. He’s not usually one to throw up. I’ve also been giving him 1 tsp of salmon oil in his food for his dry skin. Should I be concerned about the throwing up?

Hello, sorry to hear about Charlie. It would be very rare that the eye drops can cause him to vomit. You should have him evaluated today if he vomits more than 3-4 times in one day or develops lethargy, loses his appetite, or has diarrhea. Any of these signs should be further explored especially in a puppy. Causes for this could include anything from an infection (parasites or viruses, a dietary indiscretion, or even ingestion of foreign material). The salmon oil is unlikely to be causing him to vomit, but you can try to discontinue it for the next 3-5 days and see if this helps stop his vomiting as well. Hope this helps and best of luck.
