My puppy swallowed something but seems fine. Vet or watch?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 26 days old | 10 lbs

My 12 week old yorkie puppy swallowed something small. I’m not sure what it was because it happened so fast. He seems fine. Should I take him to the vet or just keep an eye on him? I’m freaking out. It really could’ve been anything. He sniff the ground for stuff to put in his mouth. I’m constantly watching him but I have four kids. Two being small children who might’ve left a toy out.

Hi there and thanks for posting! If it has been 2 or more hours since he swallowed the object, inducing vomiting at a veterinary office will probably not be successful. However, if it just happened, you may want to take him in to his veterinarian do to this if you are concerned. Since we are not entirely certain what it was he consumed, it is better safe than sorry on this one. If more than 2 hours have passed, then I would keep an eye on Zeus for the next few days. If you notice any vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy, I would take him into see his veterinarian as soon as possible. I hope this helps!
