My dog has a scabbing lump on his paw from licking. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Male | neutered | 13 lbs

My dog has a small lump on his paw next to one of his toe and it has slight scabbing on the top of it. He's a rescue and he's always licked his paws since we've had him but this recently popped up but it doesn't seem to cause him any pain. I've been making sure to keep in keep it clean and that's reduced the swelling

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! That's good to hear you've been keeping the area clean and that is doesn't appear to be bothering him. However, I would recommend this get checked out with Hershey's veterinarian soon. The bump may be allergy related or could be an abscess, swelling due to fracture of the digit, or could be an mass/tumor. Until you can get Hershey seen by his veterinarian, I would recommend Epsom salt water baths for the paw 2-3 times daily for 5-10 mins to help reduce swelling.
