My dog keeps throwing up and can't keep food down. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Doberman Pinscher | Male | 85 lbs

My 1 year old Doberman keeps throwing up. He has thrown up 4 times in the last 3 days. I was concerned at first it could be bloat, but he doesn’t have any of the other symptoms of it. However right before he got sick, he started getting really lazy and only resting. But now that he has thrown up a few times he’s very energetic, but can’t keep anything down.

Throwing up can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc. I would put Achilles on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to his regular food slowly over a few days. If the vomiting persists, or if he gets lethargic, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.
