My dog ate a pound of fish. Is her unusual sleep a sign of illness?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 11 months and 14 days old | 53 lbs

My almost 1 yr old dog reached on the counter and grabbed 1lb of flounder-fish. It was rinsed and dried. She ate 3/4 of it. Also she slept through the entire night (normally she gets up once a night to go out). Did she contract a virus?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While possible, this is unlikely. I would be more concerned about gastrointestinal upset. Watch her closely for signs of gastrointestinal upset such as inappetence, vomiting and diarrhea and if observed, have her evaluated then. Good luck and have a great day!
