My new rescue dog isn't eating, drinking, or peeing. Is she okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 18 lbs

I just got a rescued mixed breed small dog. I’ve got a bowl of food for her on the floor but she won’t eat it from there she just keeps trying to cover it up with her nose. She is painfully thin & I know she is HW - but positive for Anaplasmosis I’m currently waiting on her doxycycline. She’s been here 24 hours and only peed once. She is drinking small amounts of water. Am I just being worried for nothing?

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If you just got her and it has only been a day since Yoshi has been with you and your family, it may be she is adjusting to her new environment and may not want to eat much because of this. However, she also may not be eating or drinking very much due to a medical reason such as her Anaplasmosis infection. If another day or two go by and she is still not eating or drinking much, I would recommend Yoshi see her veterinarian. I hope this helps and I wish you and Yoshi the best!
