My dog got Nexgard & a flea bath. Can I use Hartz for live ticks?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 18 lbs

My foster dog got nexgard 48 hours ago and I gave her a flea/tick bath yesterday! I found 2 ticks on her still alive can I use the liquid medication hartz has that you apply to the back? I don’t want to overdose this little girl. She is only 18 lbs

No, I would not use Hartz on her. you have to give the Nexgard time to work. I would say check her reguarly, you may find dying ticks on her that are still alive but in the process of dying. I do not recommend adding more anti-tick or anti-flea medication.

    Hartz does not make a topical that is in the same class of drugs as Nexgard so it should be safe to go ahead and give the Nexgard. If there is a major flea infestation you may need to treat the environment (house) as well - Advantage spray, Knockout spray or Fleabusters are what I typically recommend although your best bet is to use an exterminator. Nexgard kills fleas quickly so if you treat all pets in the home for three months it should take care of the environment.

You can give him the Nexgard now. There is more you can do: fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly (Nexguard is great) 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas.

How soon could I give my dogs Nexgard or Bravecto after a topical flea treatment? I used Hartz topical on my dogs about 1 1/2 weeks ago that failed to do anything.
Hartz is a pretty poor flea treatment product, so I'm not surprised it failed. I'd wait at least two weeks after you applied the Hartz, and then it's safe to give Charlie the Nexgard or Bravecto. I hope this helps!

Jeter is on Nexgard but we're still finding ticks on him. How is this possible? Can they just not bite him? What's the story?
Hi there. Nexgard is a very effective medication for ticks, but the tick will bite and remain attached for several hours before it absorbs enough of the medication to kill it. So you may still find unattached ticks crawling on your dog, small attached ticks that are still alive, or attached ticks that are already dead. This is normal.

My dog got frontline 10 days ago but had a bath 3 days after. He will be camping in the woods for the next week. Can I give him nexgard now?
It is typically ok to space out flea/tick prevention by 2 weeks time span. I would recommend waiting the entire 14 days before using the Nexgard. The bath likely didn't strip any of the product off. If you do happen to see fleas on Dexter before the 14 day mark, you can safely give him a Capstar tablet (from your local pet store) which can rid the fleas off of him within 1 hr, but is not considered to be a flea preventative. I can also understand you wanting to go with a better product than the Frontline. I hope that you enjoy your trip with Dexter and that he remains flea/tick free. Best wishes and take care!

Can I use sentry fiprogard plus and nexgard chewables within the same week? I applied the sentry 2 days ago and I have found fleas on my dos today. I bought nexgard chewables. How long should I wait to give nexgard to the dogs?
The Sentry will kill the fleas on your dog, however, unfortunately, fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. Can Nexgard be used in addition to flea shampoo? (Dog has never had be4, was using Frontline. Found fleas and had pro shampooed; still fleas on him.)
If you wait 3-5 days after using flea shampoo, you can probably use NexGard safely. I have always had success in treating fleas using Frontline Plus. Frontline is very effective when used properly. Use the appropriate dose based on your pet's weight. Do not split doses between pets. It must be applied at least 3 days before or after a bath or grooming. It must be applied directly to the skin. This is accomplished by parting the fur with the applicator tip down to the skin. Treat ALL pets in the house for at least 3 consecutive months. The environment must also be treated. Vacuum all areas and dispose of the bag outdoors. Wash all fabrics and beddings that have had contact with any pet in the hottest water temp allowable. Knockout Area treatment (by Virbac) is just one very effective product. Lastly, treat all pets for tapeworm since fleas carry the risk of tapeworm infection. I gave both of my dogs dog md topical flea preventive 4 days ago and it did not help with the fleas. Can I safely give them nexguard or should I wait?
It is better if you wait at least two weeks in between medications. Most of the tick and flea products manufacturers do not recommend using more than one preparation at the same time. It is hard to predict what side effects could develop if two similar products are used at the same time. If you want to call Nexguard's 800 number (should be on the box) and tell them what product you already applied they may tell you it's OK. Don't forget to treat the house and/or yard for fleas. This will help tremendously. I suggest Knockout Spray ES for the house and Advantage II yard spray. You can buy these online without a prescription. Also, don't forget to treat every pet in the household for fleas too!

Can i give my dog nexguard and then take him to petsmart for an advantix flea bath?
Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Not 100% sure what you mean by an Advantix flea bath. Advantix is a topical flea treatment applied on the skin of dogs. Yes you can use Nexgard along with Advantix. Great multimodal flea/tick strategy. After you have used both oral and topical treatments together for 3 months or so, any environmental problem inside the home should be addressed. That gives enough time for most if not all of the immature stages to mature and be killed by the products. After that time period, you may be able to drop back down to one product each month. Depends on your geographical location and your particular flea problem. Good luck

Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. The manufacturers of flea and tick products do not recommend using more than one product at the time, as there could be an increased risk of side effects. Seresto is a very good product, it will be worth to give it a go but you should wait about 4 weeks after Luna had NexGard tablet.
