My cat has bloody urine after UTI meds. Is it still an infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Korat | Male | neutered | 15 years old | 11 lbs

My cat is just completing 28 days of antibiotics for a UTI but still has blood in his urine. He's 15. Is it still possible it could be an infection? I'm preparing for bad news.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I definitely understand your concern. There are a few possibilities here. This could be due to an infection that is resistant to the antibiotics being given or it could be something else like stones or a tumor. I highly recommend that you consider taking Tao to his veterinarian for reevaluation. Diagnostics that should be considered at this point include a urine culture to make sure that if there is an infection, you know which antibiotic would be best to use. Other diagnostics should include abdominal imaging such as radiographs or ultrasound. Good luck and have a great day!
