Can I call my cat a specific breed if it's a mix but looks like it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 26 days old

If I have, for example, a russian blue mix, which still looks totally like a russian blue (it's just not a "pure" breed), can I still say I have a russian blue? Or you just can say you have a specific breed of cats when it's a "pure" one? Thank you! <3

It is best to save calling your animal a specific breed only if it is a purebred. This is especially important if you are talking about a breeding situation. It is not technically correct to say Halley is a Russian Blue unless she is a purebred. Hope this helps to clarify. Best wishes! She sure is cute :)
