What's safe to put on my dog to repel flies and gnats outdoors?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 11 years and 6 months old | 86 lbs

Sometimes outside in my brick backyard, flies and gnats will be buzzing both Larry and myself. I spray OFF on myself. What can I put on Larry to keep the flies and gnats away?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Luckily the small flies and gnats do not harm or bother the dogs. You can try a repellent product like Advantix that is approved for dogs and to repel flies. I do not recommend spraying OFF on pets. Personally I think it they do not bother the dog to avoid excessive product usage. Have a good day!
