My pet has a tooth problem. Should I give Baytril and Meloxidyl?

Hi! Brought Izzy to the vet today; has been having wetness around mouth, neck and chest. Vet said it’s a tooth issue, but I need to see a different vet who has the tools to deal with the problem. Earliest appt is a few weeks, in the meantime he was prescribed Baytril (10 days) and Meloxidyl. She wouldn’t really give me a straight answer if these meds are necessary. He doesn’t seem to be in pain, eating fine etc. Don’t want to give him unnecessary drugs What are your thoughts? Thank You!

Unfortunately, it's not possible to give a good opinion about this, because I don't have the benefit of examining Izzy and fully understanding his condition. I assume that your vet prescribed these medications, because they determined that there was an infection and pain (usually dental problems are quite painful). It's good that he is eating fine and doesn't seem to be severely afflicted by this condition, but keep in mind that these guys are really good at disguising pain. As a prey species, they will usually hide their pain as much as possible until it becomes intolerable. Without knowing more, I can only assume that the vet prescribed these medications, because they felt they were necessary. The best person to ask about this is the vet who prescribed the medication. You may understand their reasoning better by asking what could happen if you don't give the medication. I hope that helps and Izzy gets better soon.
