My dove was attacked by a cat. How to treat injuries at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 30 days old

My juvenile dove was attacked by a cat last night. He has an open wound under his left wing that is also affecting his left leg, which is not working. I disinfected the area, put blue coat on it, some antibiotic ointment(I know, not the best). I gave him 25 mg of amox last night. Today he is on a heating pad, and I have given him another 25 mg of amox plus some bird electrolyte/vitamins in a dropper. I plan on 50 mg a day for atleast 5 days. What else should I be doing? Vet is not possible.

It sounds like you are doing about everything you can to help Sunny. My biggest concern is that she has a broken bone and/or nerve damage that may be irreversible. If you are not able to take her to the vet continue with your current therapy and do your best to keep Sunny immobile as possible to prevent further injury. Also, try to allow her easy access to her food and water so she can continue to eat. Best of luck with Sunny. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
